Useful Information
Homework - Homework will be given out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday. Homework in Year 3 is Spellings and times tables which are tested on a Thursday. All the children have been given a login sheet for Times Tables Rock Stars and Reading Eggs which they can use to practise times tables facts and reading skills at home. If you cannot find your login sheet, please contact your class teacher who can sort out a copy to keep at home.
Reading - Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week at home. Please record reading at home in reading records. Reading records will be checked daily, and a record kept of how many times children have read at home. Children earn housepoints for the number of times that they read and can also work towards a class treat as part of our current reading challenge.
PE - We have 2 PE lessons per week - 1 outdoor and 1 indoor. Please come into school wearing PE on your class PE day.
Sharks - Wednesday and Friday
Pandas - Wednesday and Thursday

Sring Term 2 - Take One Book
In English lessons, we will be focusing on the text Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Joe Todd-Stanton. We will explore the story and box up the main ideas to help us understand the structure of the text. In grammar sessions we will recap using inverted commas for speech, explore how to use similes to add detail to a setting and characters, then we will learn how to use subordinate conjunctions, applying these to our own writing. We will invent our own characters and the write our own adventure set in Egypt before editing and improving our writing.
In spelling sessions we will focus on using phonics and spelling patterns to spell familiar consonant sounds before exploring words from the year 3/4 word lists.
We will also focus on ensuring that our handwriting is joined and legible.

In Maths, our focus this term will be continuing to develop our multiplication skills. We will focus on our knowledge of fractions before looking at measures. We will also continue to practice our 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
In Science, we will look at Light, exploring why we need light and how shadows are formed. We will use torches to explore how shadows can be changed and look at reflective surfaces.
Wider Curriculum Work
Our History topic this term is Ancient Egypt. We will use primary and secondary sources to find out about everyday life in Ancient Egypt. The we will explore who did build the pyramids and find out about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb.
Our French will be learning how to talk about our friends and family, as well as our pets. We will also look at spelling our names.
In PE will be focussing on Fitness for our indoor lessons and will be working on our net and ball skills, focusing on tennis.
In DT, our focus will be on designing and making our own healthy dip. We will be tasting and evaluating various ingrediants before learning how to chop, slice and dice safely. We will then design and make our own healthy dip.
Our learning in RE will explore Christianity, looking at the concept of sacrifice and the meaning of the cross to Christians.
In Music lessons we will be looking at patterns in music and explore a variety of ways that music is composed .
