Useful information

Phonics - we use Unlocking Letters and Sounds to deliver high quality Phonics lessons. Each lesson follows a key process to ensure children are successful in their learning. The lesson begins with a revision session (to revise pervious learning) and then new learning is introduced. The children are then given opportunities to read and write words linked to the new learning and then read a sentence where this learning is applied. Throughout the day, they are then provided with opportunities in all areas to

Below is information about our learning this term as well as links to useful websites to support learning at home

Autumn 2

We explored a farm together with the focus of our key word of the week ‘different’. We looked at the differences between the animals and the sounds that they make.

When focusing on our key word of the week ‘help’, we worked as builders to help each other build a house for the bears. We explored the job role of being a vet and helping animals in our surgery.

We have enjoyed investigating how nature changes around us and how this makes our playground look different.

We created a road on the playground to develop our understanding of road safety. We created zebra crossings and practiced looking before we crossed the road. We have become increasingly confident when riding bikes, scooters and driving the cars. We enjoyed creating a role play petrol station to fill up the cars.

Autumn 2

This term we have been looking at the question 'How do astronauts get into space?'. Here are our astronauts that are ready to blast off into space.

We're exploring making art using different materials and have been looking at the different planets that are in our solar system.

We found out that satellites take pictures of Earth so that we can use maps. Then we created our own maps choosing what landmarks we might see.

We are focusing on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk this term. We are describing the different characters of the story and making sentences by choosing the correct character and an adjective from a range of visual cards.

We have also been working really hard on our letter formation this term and becoming more independent in controlling a pencil.

A typical day in Beaver Class

We start our day completing our morning activities these include reading with an adult, fine motor skills, Bucket time and opportunities to revisit our prior learning.

We then come together as a class for maths, phonics, dough disco, jabadao, drawing club input, circle time and snack. During circle time, we learn about our word of the week.

The drawing club table opens and we create our own masterpieces using our imagination. In addition to our drawing, we write codes where we apply our phonics and maths knowledge.

We practice the life skills of getting on our waterproofs and boots as independently as we can before heading out to the Resource Base playground. On the playground, we take part in a variety of activities based upon different areas of the curriculum and learn about the world around us.

When we get back to the classroom it is time for good learning. We have lots of opportunities to learn through play.

Then it is time for lunch, we practice life skills, such as using cutlery, and the word of the week through the use of core boards, Makaton or verbally.

In the afternoon, it is time for good learning. We may be in the classroom, outside or may join a main school class. We have opportunities to practice our word of the week, learn through play and work on our speech and language targets.

At the end of our busy day, we get our home things ready and have a story before meeting our adults.
